Actor Kiefer Sutherland and fashion designer Jack McCollough announced on Friday that they have resolved their differences after a fight that resulted in McCollough being head-butted by Sutherland.
McCollough was hospitalized and required surgery to repair his broken nose.
Sutherland and McCollough issued a brief joint statement to The Associated Press through Sutherland's attorney.
"I am sorry about what happened that night and sincerely regret that Mr. McCollough was injured," Sutherland said in the statement.
The "24" star was charged May 7 with third-degree assault in the alleged incident two weeks ago at an after party for the Met's Costume Institute Gala. Now that Sutherland and McCollough have resolved their differences, a prosecutor may go before a judge and ask that the case be dropped.
"I appreciate Mr. Sutherland's statement and wish him well," McCollough said in the statement.
Jack McCollough, co-owner of Proenza Schouler fashion house, said Sutherland head-butted him and broke his nose after an argument following the gala at the Costume Institute.
Sutherland's camp hasn't exactly cleared the air about what happened, but reports indicate the Kiefer was mad because McCollough bumped into actress Brooke Shields. Shields has called both men friends, and said Sutherland "has always been a gentleman in her company.
Sutherland was publicly contrite in an appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Thursday.
"It's something I really regret having happened," he said, turning from light-hearted to serious.
When Fallon asked, "Do you think you're Jack Bauer?
Sutherland replied, "Absolutely not, absolutely not." Sutherland's camp wouldn't say if he would cover McCollough's doctor bills.
