Best Known As: Film Actor Gist: Gary Leonard Oldman (born 21 March 1958) is an English actor and filmmaker who found fame in roles such as Sid Vicious in 1986 biopic Sid & Nancy and the title character of the 1992 blockbuster Dracula. Following the success of Dracula, Oldman was frequently cast as morally corrupt characters, and became well-known to audiences as the main villain of such critical and box office successes as Léon, Air Force One and The Fifth Element. Acclaimed for his on-screen diversity, Oldman has been referred to as an "actor's actor." In addition to leading and central supporting roles in big-budget Hollywood films, he has frequently acted in independent films. Other notable acting credits include: Prick Up Your Ears, State of Grace, JFK, True Romance, Immortal Beloved, The Contender, the Harry Potter film series (Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix) and Christopher Nolan's Batman film series (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight). Oldman directed, produced, and wrote the award-winning Nil by Mouth, a film partially based on his own childhood. Among other awards, Oldman has won two BAFTA Awards and a Saturn Award, having been nominated for three BAFTA Awards and three Saturn Awards in total. He received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on Friends in 2001. Several of his performances?notably those in Sid & Nancy and The Contender?brought forth predictions of an Academy Award nomination, which never materialised; The Guardian has called Oldman "arguably the best actor never Oscar-nominated." read more about Gary Oldman
